PRESIDENT'S CORNER![]() Dear LJAA Members and Friends, As you know, we are a non-profit, member- volunteer-operated art association that maintains a gallery for the purpose of members who want to display their artwork. Part of our articles of association require us to have an annual meeting and a board of directors who take care of the varied operations of our organization and gallery. As a reminder, this year's annual meeting will be in the Riford Library in La Jolla on May 15th from 10am to Noon. However, before we meet again this year, the executive board, who has been working very hard for you, needs some help from some of you. Please consider volunteering for our vacant positions. If you are looking to learn more about the business of art and the art of exhibiting your work, then one of these position might fit you perfectly. The following are positions that need to be filled immediately: Secretary - you would attend board meetings and take minutes, type them up on your computer and distribute them to the board. Gallery Director - you would ensure the gallery is clean, in good repair, and stocked with supplies. About once a month you would need to orient new members on how to staff the gallery for exhibitions. Exhibition Director - you would coordinate with treasurer, gallery director and exhibition group leader(s) to make ensure everyone is in communication about the exhibition schedule, guidelines and rules. You would work with a gallery support group when shows are hung or removed from the gallery. If you have some creative ideas about exhibits, you could schedule and execute your ideas. This is an open vote, which means that you can also put in your votes for members to fill existing "incumbent" positions. If you would like to see changes, please let us know by your vote! Your voice is important to to all of us and the board should represent you. I know that we have some amazingly creative and organized members who could find a few extra hours in their month to help out your art association. Respectfully yours, Kristine deYoung LJAA President 858-459-1196 president@lajollaart.org |

FROM THE MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR![]() I would like to welcome our new member, Manssur Yalpani, who joined us in March. From his artist statement: "Going through the routines of life, countless images stream past us that are often registered as mere "background. It takes just a moment, however, to realize the wealth of symmetry, patterns, textures and colors that surround us everywhere. If a photo captures such visual elements and evokes a smile, an emotion or perhaps points the viewer into a new direction, it has accomplished its mission in my books." Thank you, non-board members who participated in the March board meeting, for your time and interest: Jeff Brosbe, George Galaich, Helena (Xin) Liu and her husband. The board welcomes and values feedback from our regular members. Each one of us is an important part of the LJAA. Really. Please join us at our next monthly board meeting, which will be on Monday, April 12, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. (New membership applicants' presentations start at 6pm.) I am looking forward to seeing you! (You will also earn one VH per hour.) Best wishes, Fujiko Isomura LJAA Membership Director membership@lajollaart.org P.S. Please mark your calendar. You will return to San Diego by 8pm. Exhibits: The Renoir exhibit focuses on his last 3 decades, when he was looking beyond Impressionism. I say looking beyond, but it was also a look back to classicism. And, as one art period changes to another, here from Impressionism to Modernism, the new artists, such as Picasso, Matisse and Bonnard looked at what they called Renoir's "last manner" with admiration and ran it through their art filter. For that reason, you will see works by Picasso, Matisse, Maillol and Bonnard interspersed among the 80 paintings, sculptures and drawings. To secure your reservation: If interested please reply to Valerie Raymond at valraymond@cox.net. 40 spaces are available. Make your check out to NCSFA to: NCSFA, P.O.
