NEW TREASURER in JANUARY |
"She Said Yes!"The best Christmas gift for current Treasurer, Sharon Ford, is finding Theresa Newbern, who has agreed to become the next LJAA Treasurer starting in January of 2010.
Aside from being a talented artist,Theresa has been an agent with State Farm Insurance for over 20 years. She also has experience as the treasurer for her daughter's association. As an added bonus she is currently taking a "QuickBooks" class to assist with her new responsibilities.
Theresa is a very positive person. She has some good ideas to help make the job of Treasurer less crazy.
Being LJAA Treasurer is big job. You can always help by writing up receipts legibly and correctly, noting whose artwork is being sold, and how it was paid (check, cash or charge). That way we will all benefit!

PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Dear LJAA Artists and Friends,
Hopefully you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and are enjoying this magical time of year.
This has personally been a life-changing month for me, with a trip to China and major foot surgery. However, my bones are stronger than the doctor originally thought, so my recovery will be normal. China was a whirlwind trip that left me seriously jetlagged.
For the past several months I have written and LJAA has advertised our campaign to sell LJAA calendars. This campaign was meant to cover many of our monthly expenses not covered by gallery rental fees, art sales or membership fees. Per our treasurer's updated calendar sales figures, we have not even sold enough calendars to cover the printing cost.
According to received feedback, we seem to have two categories of members. Those who say "I can do that" and sell their fair share of 10 calendars (sometimes many more), or the members who say "I only joined LJAA to exhibit in the gallery." For those members in the second category, I would like to remind you that we may be unable to continue maintaining a gallery space for you to exhibit, if we do not make extra money from fundraising events such as our calendar sales.
I think there are many members who are not aware of how expensive it is to lease a space in the La Jolla area. Yes, we did receive some donated equipment and upgrades and pay a good rent, but we also need to cover utilities, common area fees, insurance, advertising, alarm fees, postage, professional accounting services and much much more.
With that said, those of you who have not made any effort to sell calendars have about a month left to do so. I know we have a very committed and creative group of members who will be able to find the time to do the right thing for their art association.
Happy Holidays to you all. Kind Regards, Kris deYoung, President 858-268-8642
