PRESIDENT'S CORNERKris

Dear LJAA members and friends,

At this very special time of year we thankful for many things, especially the gifts of creativity and loyalty of our members. Let me take this opportunity to thank you for all the many things you have done for your art organization this year. We sincerely appreciate the confidence you have had in me, the support you have given to your executive board, and all of things you have done for LJAA in 2010. We have come a long way in a very tough economy, and we have exciting things planned for the new year, which will allow everyone to make a positive contribution to our association. See some announcements at the end of this news section.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday season in the company of your art friends and your family.  See you at the January "Pie and Tea Social."

Warmest regards,

Kris deYoung

secretarySEEKING A NEW LJAA BOARD SECRETARY

We are really excited for Lorraine Klotz, who has been serving cheerfully as our faithful secretary for almost a year now. She has purchased a condominium and the sale will be closing in December. However, the property is in Palm Desert, so Lorraine will be moving about 120 miles away and joining her art friends in that area. We are going to need someone to replace her on the board and are seeking anyone who is a member, who can take notes and do a little typing. You would need to attend the monthly board meetings and then write up the minutes afterward and distribute by email. If you are interested you can contact someone on the board, or you can come to the next board meeting on December 13 to let Lorraine turn over her pen and paper to you.

FROM THE LJAA HISTORIAN

The year was August 1932, the years during the Depression. The LJAA Artists voted to have an all media exhibit and to see all pictures for $5.00 a piece for one month. It was a success!

Best Wishes,

Wine Sale
There are still a couple of dozen bottles of our private, one-of-a-kind, Night of the Iguana wine label remaining. You can pick up a few bottles for yourself or as a very nice gift for the wine lovers on your gift list. For only a $20 donation (includes tax), you can get the bright Chardonnay, the smooth Merlot, or the full-bodied Cabernet. Once they are all sold out, this label will be gone forever. So stop by the gallery, make your donation and get some really great wine in return.

Amy Wells
hosted an extremely successful and fabulous opening reception for her solo show entitled, "Girl" on Saturday, November 26. The well-attended event was catered by Food Junkies. It was a class act. She dimmed the lights, poured the wine, and sold more than a handful of paintings! La Jolla Art Association congratulates Amy on a show well done and hopes she will grace the gallery with her creative vibe again real soon!

Entry Fees:  None

Requirements: Original 2D art of any medium, reflecting Carmel Valley's coastal colors, textures, spirit and charm with new original work strongly encouraged. Up to three digital images may be submitted with entry forms.

Each winner will receive a year of free movies (4 movie passes a month, popcorn and soda) and a dinner for two at the Del Mar Highlands Town Center.

Message from Ultrastar Cinemas: Starting January 2011, USC will be renovating the theater(s) in Carmel Valley's Del Mar Highlands Town Center. This renovation will include the addition of many new amenities and improvements to enhance the movie going experience. As part of our renovation, USC is looking for 8-16 pieces of unique 2-dimensional, wall-hung fine art that we will incorporate as part of the interior wall design of the eight theaters.  Artists who wish to have their work immortalized as part of our theater's charm and atmosphere can submit works for consideration. We are looking for works that reflect the colors, textures, spirit and charm of Carmel Valley and the coastal area.
