You Have Seen Our New Look!
Now it is time to put it to your best use!
The La Jolla Art Association is now using this new email system called "Constant Contact." We have the ability to send this newsletter or announcements about your show or press releases. Constant Contact is a software program designed to help the members stay informed and to send attractive advertisements to the members, the public, and the press.
We have the email list for members, a list for other artists in the the San Diego area, a collectors list(visitors to the gallery) and the press email lists. As we improve so will our lists and emails.
How can a member utilize this new service? If you are having a show, you send the information plus a few jpeg photos to emails@lajollaart.org. Jeff Brosbe (brosbe@cox.net) has volunteered to help put together your email announcements. After designing the email, he will send you a test (sample of the email). At that point, you can edit it and when you are happy with the email, Jeff will schedule it to be sent to the lists of your choice. You will have an opportunity to forward that email to your private list, too.
This is a new benefit of being a member of the La Jolla Art Assoication. Jane Cooper used it for her solo show recently. She sold two paintings at her reception last Saturday. If you have questions about the service and how to utlilize it you can email Jeff. | |

La Jolla Art Association Needs Your Help! Board Positions Available
The following positions are available:
All of these positions have been simplified by the use of computer programs available to all. The newsletter uses Constant Contact to help create this publication. The treasurer's duties have been simplified with the use of Quick Books Online and banking online. The Historian will be scanning historical information onto the computer, like an electronic scrapbook.
Get involved on a different level with LJAA and become an active board member. Get your Volunteer Hours here! Contact Kris or us by email if you have any questions.
Thank you!

President's Corner
The LJAA is excited to present summer art classes for youth and teens from ages 5 to 18. These classes are a bargain at $25 (less for multiple class signup). Since our members are our best resources, it is very important that each of you ask your friends, family and neighbors to sign up their children or grandchildren for one of more of these drawing, painting, collage, photography or art discovery classes. Young children can take the class with an adult and work together as a team. Registration and more information is available at www.lajollaart.org. I encourage each LJAA member to find one youth for these July and August art classes.
Since art classes are only one of the ways we are hoping to raise funds to be able to stay in business, the fundraising committee has agreed on two more fundraising events this year. Be ready to participate in those events later this summer and in the fall. Everyone's participation is paramount, if we are to continue providing inexpensive gallery rental space for our members.
One way all members can support LJAA is by attending fellow member artists' receptions scheduled every other weekend. Dates are posted in our newsletters or on our webpage. We all need feedback and this is a way to give time and comments to your fellow artist. If you cannot make the reception, then at least stop by the gallery to see each new show. You may be inspired to do something new in your own work.

The 1st Annual LJAA Art & Poetry Exhibit Was a Great Success!
The Winners of the 2009 Poetry & Art Show were:
- Best Original Poem to Original Artwork: Shannon Stovall and Jeff. Jeff wrote the poem and Shannon created the artwork. This young couple heard about the LJAA Poetry and Art contest through Craig's List on the Internet. Now that is far reaching for an art show.
- Best Original Art to a Poem: Our own fellow member, Gwen Nobil.
- Best Original Poem to Artwork: Paul Tayyer.
The judges also made favorable comments about Cindy Hedgecock's photograph of Pelicans and her mother's poem about the same. The judges were impressed with the quality artwork and poetry present.
There were many more Category #1 (original poetry to original artwork) than the other two categories. Next year we hope to have an even better level of participation from the membership.
Entries were judged by Michael Klam (Director of Poetry and Arts Program at the San Diego Art Institute, Balboa Park) and William Roetzheim (author, playwrite, and theater director).
Congratulations to you all! Watch for details about the 2nd Annual Poetry and Art Show scheduled for 2010!
Sincerely, Tony Cuban La Jolla Art Association Exhibition Director
