Exhibiting Membership Application Instruction:

The LJAA juries in new members at each Monthly Board Meeting. An essential part of the admission process requires that the applicant bring, in person, five representative works to the Board Meeting for the jurying process. Three dimensional artists need bring three pieces. The applicant is expected to spend a few minutes discussing his or her background and the works presented.

The Board meets on the second Monday of each month. After the application is received, each applicant will be notified by e-mail when to appear at the Board Meeting with his or her works for the jurying process.

The Board Meeting begins at 6:30 pm but the jurying process begins around 6pm. After the presentation, applicant leaves with the artwork. Within one week after the Board Meeting, applicant will be notified by email about the decision of the Board. Admitted applicants will then receive a Welcome E-Package with instructions to complete the procedure from the Membership Director. If the application is declined, the applicant may re-apply after six months. The decision of the Board is final.

There is no charge for entering the jurying process. Upon notification of membership, the new member must pay a one time initiation fee of $35 and the $75 annual membership dues. (The initial year’s annual dues for artists joining in September and October shall be $50, joining in November and December shall be $75 but paid through next year. Annual Membership dues cover from January 1 through December 31. Annual dues are payable on or before January 31 of each year.) Dues and the initiation fee are payable upon notification of the letter of the acceptance in the Welcome e-package.

New members intending to exhibit with the LJAA must also be present at a brief gallery orientation meeting. In addition to dues, all members are required to perform volunteer service to the organization to earn "Volunteer Hours". A payment of VH is required for most exhibition opportunities. In unusual circumstances, an artist may request the Board in writing that the service requirements be waived or fulfilled in some other manner approved by the Board. See Section IV, Rules of Order, The Volunteer Hours on the LJAA website for more details.

Prospective members are encouraged to read the Bylaws and Rules of Order of the LJAA to obtain and learn variable information about the LJAA.

Finally, the LJAA is entirely operated by volunteers. Everything that we do, from gallery maintenance to special events, requires the time and talent of our membership.
