Mark grew up in a small town in southeastern Arizona. He was trained as a theatrical scenic designer at the University of Arizona. During his senior year, he was offered a position at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre as lead scenic artist and designer. Many years later, a position as exhibit designer at the San Diego Natural History Museum led to a passion for nature and world travel. Mark's artwork is a reflection of his intense interest in the tropics and encouraging awareness of its incredible beauty and its critical ecological role. Mark is also a musician and composer. His first orchestral work "Amarna" was given its world premiere in March of 2009.
Artist Statement: I have dabbled in oils, pastels, acrylics, watercolors and chiaroscuro, but nothing has given me more satisfaction than the digital realm. As much as I admire those who feel they must squish the paint between their fingers, I find I'm much happier attempting to tame a virtual world.
Styles: I have developed a unique technique that allows me to create virtual three dimensional still life models and digitally "paint" from them. Since each "painting" exists only within my computer, I use giclee to create a final piece of art suitable for framing.
