Artist Statement

Art in one form or another has always been an important part of my life. As a child, I did a great deal of figure drawing. In college, sketching from live models and figure sculpture were my favorite art classes.

I began using watercolor media 38 years ago as a plein air painter. The colors, sounds, and atmosphere of location painting are very exciting to me. Watercolor is my medium of choice because of the spontaneity and the immediacy of it. On location, I can render my interpretation of a subject within a few hours.

The past 19 years I have also painted in the studio, where I spend more time developing my compositions. A variety of subject matter interests me. Our travels abroad have influenced my subject matter. I recently have experimented with abstracts, hoping to further my knowledge in texture, composition, and content of the art work.
