The LJAA Lecture Series

As part of its outreach program, the LJAA sponsors a lecture each month on subjects of interest to all types of artists. These lectures are free and open to the public at the LJAA Village Gallery in La Jolla.

All lectures are on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, and run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Village Gallery is located at 7932 Ivanhoe Avenue, La Jolla just South of Prospect street.

 

 

August 16, 2006: Patricia Fischer: “Exhibition Venues and Pricing”

Patricia will be discussing all the possibilities of venues for showing your work and how these differ including a discussion about juried shows and curated shows. Patricia Frischer will cover the four main factors determining price and more refined pricing criteria which affect the decision of a collector in determining value.


Patricia Frischer is a change process specialist with broad expertise ranging from administrator and educator for high level creative studies to commercial business director. Plan to join your fellow artists and learn how this independently successful artist, lecturer and author and help you become knowledgeable about pricing your art work and a whole lot more.

Rodger Heglar, B.A., M.A. University of Washington, Ph.D.University of Michigan and a career as a university professor. He has a lifelong interest in Old Masters. His artwork can be found in many juried exhibitions throughout San Diego and he is a member of the L.J.A.A., the Plein Air Painters of S.D., San Diego Artists' Guild, among other organizations. January 18, 2006: Patricia Frischer: "How to Draw a Crowd - Publicizing Your Art Exhibition"

Patricia Frischer has been an art professor at California State College in Humboldt, head of the art department at an international school in Nottinghill Gate, London, director of a sales gallery in London, England and for three exhibitions spaces at Cal State Humboldt. She has written the book, "The Artist and the Art of Marketing" and has lecturer extensively on marketing for artists. As a dynamic part of the arts community in San Diego, Patricia was a board member for the Combined Organizations for the Visual Arts (COVA) and coordinator for the their Art Collectors Round Table and Open Studios events. She is now Coordinator of the San Diego Visual Arts Network www.SDVisualArts.net and gives lectures through www.ArtProCA.com. She also does art event servicing through www.ArtGirls.com with Joan Seifried and Ann Berchtold.

February 15, 2006: Jim Respess: "The Artist's Guide to Digital Imaging".

As time goes by, the artist needs to interact more and more with a computer or with someone with a computer. In this presentation, many examples of those interactions will be discussed and hopefully demystified. September 14th, 2005: Scott Graham: "Creating Black and White Digital Imagery"

Place: Watercolor Society Gallery, 2400 Kettner Blvd., San Diego.
Scott is a photographer creating abstract nude images in Black & White. His focus is on elegance and simplicity, with exquisite detail. The images range from very abstract to "personal portrait like" which have the goal of showing the models inner spirit. He creates the images using medium or large format film and prints using large format Epson printers.
